Des Moines Art Center Class Giveaway!
Do you expose your kids to a variety of environments? Have you taken your child to explore the free admission Des Moines Art Center or taken advantage of one of their many studio art classes or attended one of their special events? If not, you really should!
The Art Center is a great place to go to get out of the house for an hour. My son is pretty good at the “look, don’t touch” concept, but to be safe, I bring the stroller when visiting the Art Center. He can look at all the unique exhibits, ride in the elevator and I can maintain my peace. Enter through the education wing if you have a stroller and one of the guards can open the door for you into the main area. There were some clothing impaired exhibits and my son didn’t even notice. I love the innocence of children.
The Art Center has classes for all ages, even starting at the age of two! The next open session for the 2 – 4 year old class is February 24th, 10:30 – 11:30 and costs $10 per child. They also have Sunday afternoon Art Programs for ages 5 and up. You may also be interested to know they have Spring Break Workshops for ages 6 – 8 and 9 – 12.
If you are looking for Valentine’s date ideas, the Art Center is hosting FEVER Hot Dance Night Friday, February 10th, from 5 – 8pm where you can enjoy the evening with group Latin dance lessons, complimentary hors d-oeuvres and a cash bar all for $10/person.
The Art Center has generously agreed to sponsor a giveaway for two passes to their smART Family Sunday Art Program on February 12th, 2012 from 1 – 2:30pm to one Frugal Playground reader! This program is designed for parents and children ages 5 and older. It includes viewing a work of art in the museum and then using the work as inspiration for activities in the studio.
How to enter the giveaway: Leave a comment on this post telling me the last time you visited the Des Moines Art Center. (Click on “comment” under the title on top).
The winner will be chosen next week via random.org and contacted with the email you give. Only those 18 years old or older and residing in Des Moines or surrounding metro area are eligible to win.
Make your own glitter
It may be that I just haven’t been a mom long enough, but I don’t usually have crafting supplies on hand. So when I found out you can make your own edible and nontoxic glitter for for crafting, I was excited!
Ingredients:
-Salt
-Food coloring
Directions:
-Add a drop of food coloring to a some salt and mix. (A little food coloring goes a long way).
-Put on foil and bake in 350° oven for 10 minutes, then cool.
Thanks to Crafty Soccer Mom for the idea!

Baking fun
Today we did our Wilton Gingerbread Boy Cookie Decorating Kit, but with cookie dough instead of gingerbread. YUM. This was definitely my favorite activity so far. ;)
